Prime Minister Narendra Modi
attended a yoga session at United Nations headquarters to commemorate the ninth
International Day of Yoga in New York City. The International Day of Yoga has
been addressed by the Prime Minister since its beginning. The session was
attended by people from 135 countries, creating a Guinness World Record for
participation.
U.S. President Joe Biden and
First Lady Jill Biden also joined the Prime Minister on Wednesday. The
President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, Csaba Korisi, Deputy
Secretary General Amina Mohammed, Singer Mary Millben, and other eminent people
participated in the celebration.
The 45-minute yoga session was
practiced early in the morning, beginning with Namaste. Yoga provides
assistance to the mind and body apart from exercise and other physical
activities. In 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started an initiative to
celebrate International Day of Yoga every year on June 21. The first
celebration was observed all around the world on June 21, 2015.The theme of 9th
International Day of Yoda is “Yoga for Vasudhaiva
Kutumbakam" which beautifully abridges or aim of “One Earth, One Family,
One Future.”
