West Bengal polls 2023 : State elction commission responsible for every blood shed, disappointed people

West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose

West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose claims the State Election Commission is responsible for violence in West Bengal panchayat elections. A series of violent incidents were witnessed on June 8 when the State Election Commission announced panchayat elections, where clashes between workers of opposition parties and the ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) occurred. The mayhem was seen in Bhangar, South 24 Paraganas, and North Paraganas. Conflict was seen when opposition parties blamed the ruling party for not letting them file nominations.

Recently, Governor Rajiv Sinha asked the state election commissioner, Rajiv Sinha, about the role of the state election commission in conducting fair panchayat polls. He said that the commissioner has power over the police and magistrates. The statements came after Calcutta’s high court comment that if he (the commissioner) can't "take orders, he can step down" against the commissioner.

He posited about the commissioner’s appointment in anticipation of conducting free and fair elections and protecting the lives of the voters. He said the Commissioner has power over police and magistrates and holds the SEC responsible for every drop of blood shed in West Benagal. The SEC has disappointed the people of West Bengal.
