Wrestlers' Protest:Is the government serious about sexual harassment cases?

New Delhi

"We had 2-3 girls in the beginning but now we are joined by 6 girls," said Wrestler Susheel Kumar in the protest held by young athletes at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Another question comes to mind Is the government taking sexual harassment cases seriously or it is just the media grabbing this news to make their TRPs?

The protest that began by the wrestlers has now come called off. The union sports ministry has suspended the additional secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI.) The young wrestlers accused the federation president that he was sexually and mentally harassing young athletes at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Nearly 200 supporters joined the 10-day protest which has now ended.

The social perspective
We all know how many women can join wrestling. The famous movie told the struggles of a boxer Mary Com and another movie "Dangal" showcased men's popularity over women in wrestling. Fewer women can join wrestling in India because of gender parity and social discrimination. The case came up with another challenge in society. Can you imagine how would it impact new athletes and their parents? The media coverage of such news will make this more challenging.

The Nirbhaya is strong evidence of late justice or too late or too much late justice by the Supreme Court. Well, there's a saying Justice late is Justice denied. It will be interesting to see how the government and top court respond to this case. Will it also be added to the queue like in any other cases?

Anurag Thakur said on Saturday that an oversight committee will be formed to investigate the allegations after second-round talks with wrestlers. The names of the committee members will be disclosed on Monday.

What do you think is the government serious about this or not? Is the top court going to look into this matter? How will the cabinet take action on this? Almost no answers to these questions but when will get them? Also, a question mark on this too.
